Oil on masonite, signed lower right.  Titled on artist’s stationary on reverse.  9 1/2” x 13 1/2”, frame size 11 1/2” x 15 1/2”.  Old varnish; could use a proper cleaning.

Sara Lois Wood O’Brien Bogren was born in Manhattan and spent her early years in Leonia, Bergen County, NJ. In 1939, Airstream Living published an article about the artist living in and painting from an Airstream camper.  She and her husband James O’Brien lived in Los Angeles in the 1940’s and 1950’s, where Wood pursued a commercial career as an illustrator and designer for LearCal, Motorola and Space Technology Laboratories. O’Brien died in 1960.  Wood married Neal Bogren in 1964 and the two returned to the east coast.  Wood’s best known work comes from her time in Provincetown.
