George Bowman was a painter of landscapes, seascapes, portraits and still lifes and lived on Cape Cod at West Barnstable, Massachusetts. Favored subjects were along the Cape Cod shoreline and New England landscapes and seascapes.
He studied and received degrees from both The Boston School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Tufts University, graduating with honors. He then taught drawing and design at the Boston Museum School that included the Tufts University art program, for seven years. He later illustrated and designed childrens books and adult educational publications in Boston and New York City. He also worked for a high-tech engineering firm on publications related to National Defense and NATO.
Among his painting awards are the Louis Bankoff Painting Award, The John Cooley Painting Award, the Aldro Hibbard Painting Award, Rockport MA., The National Casein Show Painting Award, New York N.Y., The Copley Society Painting Award, Boston MA., The 3-M Company print Award, and the New England Book Designers Award.
George's art was selected for the New York Life Calander Art in 1980 and 1981, and is represented in many private collections including the Virginia Mortgage Corp. Norfolk, VA., The Honeywell Corp., MN., Harvard University Medical, Boston, MA., Cape Cod Bank and Trust, Hyannis, MA., the Cape Cod Community Foundation, Yarmouth, MA.
