Sherrod studied painting in his native Oklahoma before attending the Art Students League in NY in the early 60's, and the B. Carrol Reece Memorial Museum at East Tennessee State University in 1968. Sherrod began working as a teacher in 1973, and served as an educator in the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey from 1977 to 2003, while also serving as a teacher at the Art Students League from 1984-2008, among other institutions.
